"If you want to love Me, listen to Me. You gotta let Me love you first."
Isn't that a great song from the heart of God? So true, too! It's almost impossible to love Him unless He draws us. And we have Bible on that notion. 1 John 4:19, "We love because He first loved us."
Then I learned another chorus listening to a recording of Misty Edwards during a live devotional set at the International House of Prayer in KC.
"I wanna take my affections, put them in a bottle, just to waste it at Your feet. I wanna take my passion, put it in a bottle, just to break it at Your feet."
So heart of Mary, don't you think? I sang them at pastor's prayer today. ;D Then Tony and I went to Peppe's Pizza. I realized it's much like the Guiseppe's Pizza I have in the Lambert Books and I'd never been to Peppe's before starting the first book. Isn't that weird? But cool.
Now I'm home and want to finish Allie. Kyle is on his way to back to Florida after the hurricane, hours before the wedding is supposed to take place, and oh no! Part of I-95 is out... Will he make it to the church on time?
A thought about Dad... I picked up a Calvin and Hobbes book and opened to this:
Calvin: Can I have a different plate?
Mom: Why?
Calvin: Somebody puked on mine.
Instantly, I saw Dad's face as he broke into a laugh. First the silent, hestitating laugh that's trapped in his chest, then it bursts out into a rolling chuckle. I saw his wide smile as he slapped his knee, and heard the second rumble of his laugh as the joke settled in and tickled his funny bone. He liked Calvin. I think he had a little bit of Calvin in him. ;) Miss you, Dad.
Peace out.
One of the top 10... probably top 5 hardest laughs I ever had was during Christmas at Tony and Rachels house when dad, Joel and I were reading Calvin and Hobbes. Dad read a particular strip and handed it to me. He was already laughing and I couldn't even finish before I busted out. All I could do was slide the book to Joel and a couple of seconds later the three of us lay on the floor laughing until it was painful and then we laughed some more. It will be good to see dad again.
ReplyDeleteNow, having said that I am on to a Biblical matter. I am just a little concerned about the verse that was about how the Lord has to wait for us to Love Him in order for Him to love us. It is my understanding that the Scriptures state that the Lord has declared His love for me before He created the first day in time. I was created only 36 years ago. I also think that it is impossible to come to Him unless He first draws me. Anyway, those are my thoughts.
Sorry, I couldn't remember what that verse was and I was wrong in my comment. I am still concerned though that the verse says that "you gotta to let Me love you first". The Lord still had already loved me before the first day. I just didn't realize it until I was about 7 years old. That means that He has loved me at least 6,000- 10,000 years before I even knew who He was. Oh well, there are my thoughts again.
ReplyDeleteCool post Rachel. My pastor actually taught on 1 John 4:19 this past Sunday. He said our prayer should be every day. Lord, love me.
ReplyDeleteFiremedic, I think we're saying the same thing. The Lord does love us already, He loves the whole earth, but not everyone is allowing Him to convince them, and receive His love. Many are refusing it and most of us try to earn it, but in reality it takes God to love God. I can ony love Him, if I first experience His love. It's like progression in Song of Solomon, He has to tell her who she is, before she can become it. So it's only by the knowledge of His affection that I then can return it. John 15:9 "As the Father loved me, so I have loved You; abide in My love"..not "do things for Me," or "convince Me of your love," but...He is so confident of His love, and that it'll win our hearts that He simply says abide, calm and quiet your soul (Psalm 131), and let Me love you....I believe that's one of His main goals for forever is to convince us of His great love with which He loved us, so for eternity the Father can reveal His kindness to us (Eph.1).....so ultimately I think we're tracking together ......and p.s. that wasn't my original chorus, it was a Misty one that seemed to be from the heart of God for that time, and the same chords. :o) Grace to you....
